What are the Smudge Wands used for?

Smudge wands are often used as part of personal rituals, prayer, meditation, intention-setting, space clearing or quiet reflection.

Some people use them when beginning a new chapter, preparing a room, moving into a new home, releasing what feels heavy, or simply creating a mindful pause in their day.

At With Good Intentions, we do not believe there is only one correct way to create a meaningful practice.

Each person’s beliefs, traditions and intentions are personal, and we encourage you to use your smudge wand in a way that feels safe, respectful and true for you.

Where do you source your herbs and botanicals?

Many of the herbs, medicinal plants and botanicals used in our smudge wands are naturally grown by us.

We grow our own White Sage (Salvia apiana) in our garden, where it grows among rosemary, lavender and flowering plants, in a sunny position where it receives plenty of natural light.

We do not use herbicides or routine chemical pesticides on our White Sage. On the rare occasion our plants need support, we may use a natural pyrethrum-based spray, applied carefully and only when needed.

Our White Sage plants are happy, healthy and continue to thrive throughout the year. We harvest only what is needed, taking limited cuttings with care and respect.

For the herbs, botanicals, sweet spices and incense resins we cannot grow or produce ourselves, we source from trusted local Australian family-owned wholesalers.

How do you prepare and dry your herbs?

Our herbs are freshly cut and carefully hung to air dry in a cool, dry space. This slow drying process helps preserve their natural colour, texture and aromatic qualities before they are used in our smudge wands.

How are the Smudge Wands presented and packaged?

At With Good Intentions, our smudge wands are intentionally supplied without plastic or cello wrapping.

This choice reflects our commitment to reducing unnecessary packaging waste, while also allowing each wand’s natural beauty, fragrance and individuality to be fully appreciated.

Through our experience at markets and retail events, we have seen how people are often drawn to a particular wand through its colours, botanicals, natural scent and intention message.

Being able to see, touch and smell the wand can create a more meaningful connection before choosing the piece that feels right for you.

Each smudge wand is handcrafted using herbs, seasonal botanicals and natural floral elements. No two wands are exactly alike, and we believe their individuality is best appreciated without plastic packaging hiding their character.

Each wand is finished with a labelled swing tag that includes the wand name, affirmation message, herb combination and a QR code linking to our “How to Use a WGI Smudge Wand”guide.

Will each smudge wand look exactly the same?

No. Due to the handcrafted nature of our smudge wands and the use of seasonal botanicals, each wand may vary slightly in colour, herb combination, floral accents, shape and overall appearance.

These natural variations are part of the unique character and beauty of each wand. While we create each wand with care and consistency, no two smudge wands are exactly alike.

Do the smudge wands come with instructions?

To avoid unnecessary paper waste, we no longer include printed A5 instruction guides with each smudge wand.

Instead, each wand includes a labelled swing tag with a QR code that links directly to our “How to Use a WGI Smudge Wand”guide in our Guides library.

This guide includes practical instructions, safety information and helpful reminders for using your smudge wand with care.

Keeping the guide online also means the information remains easy to access and can be updated when needed.

What is the shelf life of a Smudge Wand?

When stored correctly, a smudge wand is best used within 24 months to enjoy its natural colour, fragrance and quality at their best.

This does not mean your wand must be discarded after this time. If it has been stored in a cool, dry place, remains dry and intact, and shows no signs of mould or damage, it may still be suitable to use.

To help preserve your smudge wand, store it away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.

You may also choose to store your smudge wand in the freezer between smoke rituals to help protect the natural botanicals and extend its freshness.

As part of our quality-control process, all smudge wands are placed in a freezer at -18°C for a minimum of 48 hours prior to dispatch. This helps protect the integrity and cleanliness of the natural botanicals used in our products.
